C-U Stands With Standing Rock Fundraiser Concerts

The first of two "C-U Stands with Standing Rock" fundraisers concerts took place today. All of the proceeds from the event went towards helping the tribe pay for it's legal expenses surrounding the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline. The pipeline is currently in the process of building a 1,134 mile long $3.8B pipeline  to transport fracked crude oil from the Bakkenshale formation in Northwestern N. Dakota, through S. Dakota, Iowa and Illinois to existing pipelines in Southern Illinois.

The concert consisted of 7-8 local bands playing their music, along with presentations from Native American speakers about the current situation with the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline and how it's directly affecting the tribes culture. If you missed today event you can still make it to the next one.

The second C-U Stands with Standing Rock fundraiser concert event will be held Saturday, November 12th, 1-10 pm, 2016 at the Urban-Champaign Independent Media Center.

A 10 dollar donation is suggested at the door. For more information on the event visit their website and Facebook Page.
