Special Ceremony For Vets & First Responders In Decatur

Posted:

Decatur – Veterans and first responders were honored over the weekend at the Decatur Airport with a special ceremony.

An American flag was placed over a steel beam from the World Trade Center inside of a Decatur Airport hangar.  Veterans and representatives of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur Police and fire departments, all stood at attention as the national anthem was played.

The Sheriff’s Department made a $1,000 donation through the Howard Buffett Foundation to Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation.  The organization took veterans and first responders for flights over Decatur in a two-seat 1940 Stearman biplane.  The check was presented by Lt. Jon Butts of the Macon County Sheriff's Department.
