THOMASBORO – Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Rantoul Police Department need the public’s help after the Altamont Company was targeted in two separate crimes in September.

The crimes happened between September 8 and 10, as well on September 20.

Authorities say the first incident occurred early in September and involved an unknown person vandalizing and robbing a large John Deere tractor parked outside the business for construction purposes. The suspect opened the engine compartment doors, cut the battery cables and removed two large batteries from the tractor. Those batteries are valued at $300 apiece.

The business was targeted again on September 20.

Rantoul Police say they were dispatched to the Altamont Company business area for a report of three male teenagers yelling and making a lot of noise. The reporting person told police they could hear glass breaking, and authorities discovered four large windows broken at the business. The total damage is $5,000.

The owner of the Altamont Company says they will be offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the subjects involved in the window damage.

Additionally, those with information can earn a cash reward by submitting any tips that help solve these crimes to Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information on these crimes is urged to contact Sergeant Bouse at 217-893-5647, reference R16-01729. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact the Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS or visit the Crime Stoppers website.
