80-year-old woman robbed in Springfield Sunday night

SPRINGFIELD – Springfield Police say an 80-year-old woman was attacked and robbed in the 400 block of North 2nd Street.

Officers say the robbery happened just before 4 PM on Sunday, October 16. The victim was an older Springfield woman who was walking to her car when a man approached her asking for twenty dollars. She told him no and went to get into her vehicle when the suspect attacked her.

The man punched her in the face several times before taking her purse out of the front seat of her car and fleeing west. Authorities say the victim did not require medical attention when authorities arrived on scene.

The victim tells Springfield Police that the suspect was a black man in his early 20s, standing around 5’5’’, weighing around 130 pounds and wearing a navy blue t-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the crime.
