Mattoon police investigating home invasion that left one senior citizen injured

MATTOON - The Mattoon Police Department is investigating a October 19 home invasion that left a senior citizen injured.

Mattoon police say officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Rudy Avenue at about 3:37 a.m.  Upon arriving, officers say they found a 70-year-old man who had sustained multiple injuries.  When officers spoke with the victim, they say the victim reported being asleep in his home, and waking up to find two younger men inside, who injured him during an altercation.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to Carle Hospital for treatment.  The victim is currently listed in stable condition.

Mattoon police say the suspects are described as two white males in their late teens or early twenties, both standing about 5'8" tall with a thin build, and were armed with a club or other blunt object.
