New senior center opening in Springfield

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated the completion of a new senior center in Springfield Tuesday afternoon.

The ceremony was held at the Villas at Vinegar Hill to celebrate the construction of 92 new senior housing units.  The project, headed by the Springfield Housing Authority, was constructed using mostly local products and labor.

Springfield Housing Authority Executive Director Jackie Newman says, "As you look at the office furniture and decor from flea markets to fabulous to Magnolia Lane and Midwest Office Supply, we tried to use local vendors and we hope that you will agree, as you tour it in a few short moments, of just how warm and welcoming the facility is, and that's what we wanted to happen."
