SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti joined Illinois Department of Aging officials in Springfield Thursday afternoon to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

This event was held at the Department of Natural Resources Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.  Lt. Gov. Sanguinetti spoke about the importance of spotting elder abuse, and encouraged the public to put an end to it.

"Raising awareness to this important issue is something that we must think about.  Not just today but every single day of the year.  This is why a day like today should be taken so seriously.  We should talk about it.  We should pay attention we should educate others, especially our younger generation.  If you see something you got to say something," said Lt. Gov. Sanguinetti.
