Juneteenth celebration gets extra guests

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Juneteenth is an annual celebration honoring the end of the Civil War and the end of slavery.

This year's event had a few extra guests due to the area it was located.

Shawn Gregory, the event's coordinator, said he wanted to make sure everyone was safe during the festivities, so police presence was increased.

The police officers at the celebration said they love being able to come and hangout with the kids.

The final day for the Juneteenth is Sunday. Activities like music, games, and a dance-off will start at 10 a.m. and go until 7 p.m.
