14-year-old hit by train dies

BEMENT, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois State Police say a 14-year-old died after they were trying to cross a railroad track on Sunday. 

First responders say the boy died at the scene, just before 2:15 p.m. 

ISP said the 14-year-old boy was attempting to cross the railroad tracks at the railroad crossing and was struck by a passing freight train. 

Witnesses say the child was riding his bike across the tracks when the train hit him on the corner of Macon and West Bodman Street.

No further information has been released.

An earlier version of this story identified the boy as a 10-year-old. ISP has since released the age.
