Community raising money for missing scholar's family

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The U of I Community Credit Union is partnering with the University of Illinois Police Department and University of Illinois to set up a Humanitarian Assistance Account for the family of missing scholar Yingying Zhang.

U of I Community Credit Union officials say the account is designed to help raise money to cover the expenses of Yingying Zhang's family during their time in Champaign-Urbana, as well as for possible rewards for information that helps law enforcement safely bring her back home.  In addition to the account, a GoFundMe campaign has also been set up by the Community Credit Union to aid Zhang's family.

"It’s a terrible situation for their family, our University, and our community.  We wish for her safe return, and we want to do all we can to help support the family during this difficult time," says Credit Union President and CEO E.J. Donaghey.

If you would like to make a donation, you may visit any U of I Community Credit Union branch, or you can click here.  If you have any information on Zhang's disapperance, contact the FBI's Springfield Field Office at (217) 522-9675.
