$40,000 reward offered for information in scholar kidnapping

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Champaign County Crime Stoppers and University of Illinois officials say a $40,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) involved in the apparent kidnapping of Yingying Zhang.

The reward was announced during a conference at the Illinois Fire Service Institute, and comes at the request of the Zhang family.  The money for the reward was raised by the community to assist the Zhang family, but the family requested that the money be used as a reward for information that will solve this disappearance.

Additionally, the FBI is offering a separate $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Yingying Zhang has been missing since June 9, and was last seen getting into a black Saturn Astra at around 2 p.m. at the corner of West Clark Street and North Goodwin Avenue.  If you have any information regarding Zhang's disappearance, contact the FBI's Springfield Field office at (217) 522-9675.
