BEMENT, Ill. (WAND) – Piatt County leaders have named the teen killed in a train collision.

County death examiner Troy Dunn says 14-year-old Logan McKibben died in the Sunday afternoon crash. He was riding his bike across the tracks in Bement when a passing freight train hit him. This happened near the intersection of Macon and West Bodman streets just after 2 p.m.

Our partners at The News-Gazette say McKibben was heavily involved in his hometown’s school district, taking part in the Challenger League and Special Olympics. He also had autism.

Grief counselors helped McKibben’s classmates deal with the aftermath on Monday.
