Man receives 20-year prison sentence for sexual assault of child

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A Champaign County man convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child has been sentenced to two decades in prison.

According to court records, Joseph Herschberger, 37, received a 20-year prison sentence on June 19.  Herschberger was found guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child after a bench trial last month.

Herschberger was arrested at his home on June 1, 2016 after a relative of the victim reported the abuse.

In addition to the prison sentence, Herschberger must pay court fees and register as a sex offender.  He will receive credit for 384 days previously served.
