Gov. orders flags at half-staff to honor fallen trooper

ILLINOIS (WAND) - United States flags and state flags will be flown at half-staff starting July 4 in honor of Illinois State Trooper Ryan Albin.

The order was given by Governor Bruce Rauner, and affects all individuals and entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act, according to Illinois Department of Central Management Services officials.  The flags are to be displayed at half-staff from sunrise on July 4 through sunset on July 6.

Trooper Albin died Wednesday after his squad vehicle and a 2014 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle were involved in a crash on I-74.  Albin was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.  A K-9 officer was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, but only sustained minor injuries.
