New Grocery Delivery Service in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND): A new grocery delivery will deliver your groceries to your doorstep for a fee of $5.99.

Instacart launched today in Champaign and Springfield. According to Dave Osborne, the Instacart General Manager for the Midwest region, the delivery service is as simple as online shopping.

"Customers simply go online to or download our app and they can order their groceries," Osborne says. "We'll deliver it right to their door usually within an hour."

The company says their target audience is broad.

"If you're really busy and don't have time to get to the store, if you have little kids and it's just a pain to get to the store with those kids, or maybe you have some mobility issues and it's really tough to get to the store," Osborne says, "you can pay someone else to do it for you."

In Champaign you can choose to shop from CVS, Schnuck's, or Binny's. Each morning the inventory online is updated. When a shopper accepts your list, they scan each item onto the app to make sure it's exactly right.

When it comes to produce, Osborne says shoppers are trained on choosing produce at it's ideal ripeness.

"Or if a customer has a special request, let's say with an avocado they're not going to eat for three or four days so they want one that's not quite that ripe, they can provide that information to the shopper and the shopper will make that choice for them," Osborne says.
Instacart has hired 100 shoppers in the area over the past few days. If you're interested in the service you can use special code "WAND17" at checkout for $20 off your delivery.
