CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois State Police say one man was taken to the hospital after his truck-tractor box-trailer crashed into a ditch just off of Interstate 72 in Champaign County.

ISP officials say the crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-72, near mile post 179, at about 11:08 p.m. on July 11.  According to the preliminary investigation into the crash, a 2015 Freightliner truck-tractor box-trailer was traveling on the road when the vehicle drove off to the right, struck a guardrail, and came to rest in a deep ditch or creek.

The driver, identified as a 59-year-old Petersburg man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  Troopers spoke with the driver, who said he swerved to avoid an animal in the roadway.  The driver was cited for improper lane usage.
