Illinois recycling companies announce merger

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) – Recycling companies in the Champaign-Urbana area announced a recycling expansion effort.

Midwest Fiber Recycling says it has joined forced with Community Resources Inc., an Urbana recycling company. MFR says it believes the merger will help build “green jobs” and expand recycling efforts in both cities, while at the same time help businesses make sure they send less items to landfills.

Each company has different strengths. Community Resources specializes in helping businesses recycle, while Midwest Fiber focuses on serving central Illinois. It runs facilities in five Illinois cities, including Springfield and Decatur.

MFR believes the merger will allow companies to slow down the amount of money they spend on waste. The sale became final on Monday.
