Decatur police investigating early morning attempted murder

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Police were called to an area near East Lake Shore Drive and Jasper Street for a report of shots fired on Sunday morning.

When they arrived on scene around 2:55 a.m. they did not find any shell casings, but just after 3 a.m., St. Mary's Hospital contacted police about a man with a gunshot wound.

The victim was shot on the left side of his head behind his ear. His injuries were determined to be life threatening. He was air-lifted to St. John's Hospital for further treatment, and is expected to survive.

Police examined the victim's car and found a bullet hole on the driver side door. When police questioned the victim, he said he was shot at while driving. The victim would not elaborate on what happened.
