A Walk in My Shoes campaign helps buy shoes for kids in need

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)-  Have you ever wondered what it was like to walk in the shoes of those less fortunate than you? Well, life long Decatur resident Marty Watkins has and he decided to help.

“The campaign is titled A Walk in My Shoes campaign,” says Marty Watkins the campaigns creator. “We have no idea what some of these children are going through in life. So, to kind of give them some say so, I am enabling them to pick out their own shoes giving them something they want and need.”

Marty take 20 kids from two different elementary schools to Shoe Encore in the mall where he pays for them get a new pair of shoes.

"The first year I actually sat in the corner and teared up because of the smiles and the excitement,” added Marty. “It is really dear to my heart to see that the kids are so excited.”

Marty hopes he can inspire others to help those in need, even if it something small.

"I just hope people will see this is all about the community and about our children who are our future," stated Marty.
