Illiopolis gets its LOL back

Illiopolis, Ill – Drive into Illiopolis off of I-72 and you will see the village has its LOL once again.

In October, a large Illiopolis sign on the edge of town was vandalized.  Three concrete letters were stolen from the sign.  Two ‘L’s and an ‘O’.

The LOL theft was funny to some but not to Mayor Sam Rogers.

“It’s kind of irritating,” Rogers told WAND’s Doug Wolfe.  “People won’t respect other people’s property.”

Two volunteers put in the time and effort to make new letters for the sign.  Those letters have been installed and the sign is back to its original form.

The sign welcoming visitors to the Sangamon County village has stood for more than 60 years.
