Decatur sees significant economic boom

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Decatur is seeing a significant increase in economic activity for the first four months of 2018.

Employment is up significantly at Caterpillar.

Fuyao Glass in Macon County now employs 300 people.

Akorn Pharmaceuticals will have invested $25 million to expand its facilities in Decatur over three years by the end of 2018.

Economic Development Corporation President Ryan McCrady said Decatur is on the right track. "The early part of 2018, we're seeing a trend forward. About 600 additional jobs since the first of the year... and we're about 100 jobs over where we were this month last year. So, both trends are pointing positively, which is good news for us."
