CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – A fire at a Champaign apartment complex caused a lot of the roof to cave in.

Firefighters began battling the blaze around 6 p.m. Friday at 600 Block of Randolph Street between John and Green streets. A resident told WAND-TV they believe the fire started on the third floor.

Firefighters were working to get debris out of the roof. The flames were mostly out as of about 8:30 p.m.

Crews say the fire did not cause any injuries, adding that they'll be unable to provide any damage or cause updates for a while. They plant to remain on the scene for most of Friday night as they work on preventing flare-ups.

Most of the people who live in the complex are University of Illinois students or faculty.

The station will update this developing story as it learns more.
