CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign City Council is expected to vote Tuesday night on a Downtown Intersection and Resurfacing Improvements Project.

The project would bring new traffic lights, resurfaced streets, and other improvements. It would cost more than $1 million.

The project would be completed before winter starts if approved to go forward.

The streets that would be resurfaced include:

  • Neil St. between Springfield and University
  • Walnut St. between White and University
  • Walnut St. between Chester and Main
  • Chester between Neil and Walnut
  • Taylor St. east of Walnut
  • Market St. between University and Main

Curbs and sidewalks would be redone where needed.

There would be traffic and pedestrian lights at the Walnut and Logan and Neil and Clark intersections.

WAND will update you when the council comes to a decision on the project.
