Combined Veterans' Task Force submits final report to General Assembly, Gov.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Combined Veterans' Capital Needs Task Force has submitted its final report to Governor Bruce Rauner and the General Assembly.

The task force was created by Rauner to analyze infrastructure needs and develop strategies to improve the health and safety of residents at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

The recommendations come amidst a Legionnaires outbreak at the facility.

Four recommendations were made for continued remediation efforts at the home.

Those recommendations are:

  •  A new skilled nursing care facility to house up to 300 residents
  • A new underground water loop that feeds existing buildings and all new construction
  • An alternate water source and making improvements to the existing water treatment facility
  • Purchasing and renovating the closed, off-site nursing facility to provide temporary living for up to 180 residents and 90 permanently

The estimated cost of complete reconstruction is between $202 and 245 million.

The General Assembly would have to approve it.
