DANVILLE - The Vermilion County Sheriff's Department is warning the public about a phone scam involving people claiming to be with the department.

Officials said the scammers cloned the sheriff's department phone number. The main number shows up on caller ID, but it is not the actual number calling.

The scammers are even using names of actual sheriff department employees.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up. Officials said the scammers could be anywhere, including out of country and would be very hard to track.
