Firefighters battle early morning house fire


DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - South Wheatlon fire crews spent the morning battling a fire on Decatur southeast side Thursday. 

Crews were called to the home in the 3000 block of Sand Creek Road around 4:40 a.m. When they arrived the home was engulfed in flames. 

The homeowner was at home at the time of the fire. They were luckily able to make it out unharmed. The family did say that their dog did die as a result of the fire. 

Fire fighters say the home is a total loss. 

The cause is still under investigation.
