6 of the 7 charged in Centennial High fight appear in court


URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Five of the seven people charged in connection with a fight outside Centennial High School that left a teen seriously injured appeared in juvenile court Thursday, and a sixth suspect is due in court Friday. 

Three of the minors were ordered to be released from the Juvenile Detention Center. Two others whose progress reports were not good were kept in custody.

The sixth teen has a court date for Friday.

The seventh person charged, 18-year-old Jack Ngo, was charged as an adult with aggravated battery and mob action. He is out on bond pending a hearing on May 17.

The boys charged were all Centennial High School students and range in age from 15 to 18.

The fight was April 20. A 17-year-old was attacked and hospitalized.

Champaign police said video from the attack shows the victim squaring off against another teen before falling and hitting his head on a brick wall as another person beat him.

The State's Attorney said several of the teens are involved with gangs and have had problems before at the school.

The victim is now out of the hospital and expected to recover.
