Decatur Public Library going fine free

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Public Library is going fine free.

As of June 1, library cardholders will no longer be required to pay overdue fines.

The library made the announcement on its Facebook page.

Only fees for lost or damaged items will be charged.

Overdue fines can be waived and will no longer be accrued.

Books or materials are considered lost after 40 days. The cardholder would then receive a bill for a replacement. If the item is returned, those charges would be waived.

This will apply to other overdue books on loan from other libraries that were checked out with a Decatur Public Library card.
