IDNR reminds people to leave young wildlife alone

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding people to leave young wildlife alone during breeding season.

IDNR officials said taking possession of young wildlife like rabbits, fawn deer, ducklings, and other animals that may appear to be orphaned or abandoned can actually hurt the animals.

Officials said, in most cases, the animals are still being cared for and fed by parents which stay away when people are present.

It is against the law to keep wild animals as pets or raise wild animals believed to have been abandoned.
