DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A registered sex offender is going to prison for visiting an elementary school.

Michael Valentine, 27, broke rules for sex offenders when he took several trips to Mount Zion Grade School with his girlfriend, who a police affidavit says has a child that attends the school. He decided to plead guilty to the crime in court and waived his right to a trial.

Valentine will serve two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, along with one year of mandatory supervised release after that time. The court gave him credit for about three months already served between February and May of 2018.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services discovered Valentine was vising the school.

Valentine sexually abused a 15-year-old in 2014 and had to register as a sex offender for life because of it. He served 3 ½ years behind bars for that crime.
