Mt. Zion awarded funds for bike path project


Mount Zion, Ill. (WAND) – The Village of Mount Zion has been awarded over $20,000 for the new Harryland Road Bike Path project.

The funds are a part of a nearly $36 million investment from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program that stems from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

"By investing in our local communities, we are strengthening our state's transportation system as a whole. ITEP allows us to invest millions of dollars in multimodal infrastructure based on local needs, in doing so, we are improving options for safe travel and enhancing quality of life in communities across Illinois," according to Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn.

ITEP awards focus on improving bike and pedestrian travel as well as other improvements in transportation which promote alternative options for getting around.
