Champaign City Council gives initial approval to fund economic agencies

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign City Council have initial approval to fund agreements with two economic groups.

Those groups are the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation and the Champaign Center Partnership.

A second vote is needed to fully approve funding the groups for one year, giving almost $116,000 to the county group and $57,500 to the city agency.

The Champaign Center Partnership would work to become self-sustaining over the next year and eventually be able to fund itself. The nonprofit group does marketing for businesses across Champaign.
