(WAND) – GameStop could soon be sold to new ownership.

CNBC reports the company, which has stores in Decatur, Springfield, Champaign and other central Illinois towns, talked with private equity firms about a possible sale. It says the company has recently seen buyout interest.

Sycamore Partners has shown interest in taking ownership of GameStop. The New York-based firm owns Hot Topic, Belk, Staples and other businesses.

CNBC says people sources close to the situation told it talks don’t necessarily mean a deal will happen, even though GameStop is considering selling itself.

GameStop and Sycamore Partners declined to comment when CNBC reached out.
