DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- An Atwood mother who lost her daughter to an opioid overdose has received a letter from President Donald Trump.
Last fall, Stacy Welch lost her daughter Shalynn Conner to overdose. For Valentine’s Day, Welch and thousands of other parents of people who had overdosed sent cards to the president including photos of their children.
In recent, days, they received personalized letters back from the President.
“He may not have read this letter personally, but somebody did. Somebody took the time to read these letters,” Welch said. “We want them to see the faces of our kids, see the loss we’re experiencing. We don’t want any other families to go through this, and this is the way we have to get through to people.”
In his letter, President trump called the opioid crisis a national health emergency and said his administration is fighting the problem on all fronts.
