Cell phone donations needed for soldiers


DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A cell phone donation drive is being held for soldiers.

State Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur)  is hosting a Cell Phones for Soldiers donation drive throughout July.

Cell Phones for Soldiers provides deployed troops with free phone calls to their families.

Residents are encouraged to bring their old cellphones and tablets to either of Scherer's constituent service offices: 1301 E. Mound Rd., Suite 270 in Decatur, or Room E-2 on the first floor of the Stratton Office Building in Springfield. 

You can drop off donations Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Decatur, or Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Springfield.  Both offices will be closed on July 4.

For every donated phone valued at $5, Cell Phones for Soldiers is able to provide two and a half hours of free talk time to deployed troops.
