Two people air lifted after Shelby County crash

SHELBY COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) – One person is dead and another was air lifted to an area hospital after a Shelby County car crash.

Tuesday afternoon just after 3:00 p.m., a vehicle traveling eastbound on Shelby County Road 200 North did not yield to oncoming traffic at the intersection of US Route 45.

Champaign County Coroner says, 76-year-old Mary Overbeck of Teutopolis died on June 29th of complications from her injuries during the crash. 

A driver traveling southbound on US Route 45 could not avoid colliding with the other vehicle, and both cars sustained significant damage.

The driver was issued a citation for Failure to Yield at a Stop Intersection.

Champaign County Coroner Duano Northrup has released the name of the Teutopolis, Illinois woman who was a driver of a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle versus motor vehicle crash that occurred on June 26, 2018 on Route 45 in Shelby County IL.

Seventy-six (76) year old Mary Overbeck was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois at 7:47 PM on June 29, 2018 of complications from injuries she received during the crash. No autopsy was performed however, an inquest may be held at a later date.

This death is being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office & the Illinois State Police District 10.
