Search continues for missing arrowhead hunter

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The search is continuing in rural Sangamon County for a missing arrowhead hunter.

59-year-old Michael Schmidt has not been seen since June 10.

He was searching for arrowheads with a friend near the 7600 block of Vigal Rd. He is in poor health and cannot speak, because he has a breathing tube.

The friend told deputies they were in the area looking for arrowheads, and he waved for Schmidt to come to the vehicle. Schmidt acknowledged the wave, but never returned to the vehicle.

The friend looked for him, but could not find him.

Volunteers are going to search an area about five miles north of Pawnee starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone 19 years or older in good shape is encouraged to come. Volunteers are told to wear long pants due to weeds and underbrush.

If you are not able to search, you can also help by providing water, Gatorade, lunches, snacks, or fruit for the searchers. Other needed items include one hiking rope with belt straps, bug spray, walkie talkies and Benadryl.

Volunteers should meet at 10 a.m. at North Pawnee Road by New City Road, about a half-mile north on the east side of the road.
