Effingham's Chad Green among leaders in MLB

NEW YORK -- Effingham High graduate Chad Green had a breakout campaign in 2017 with the Yankees, with a 1.83 ERA and 5-0 record primarily out of the bullpen.

Now in 2018 he's proving to the league that he's much more than a one-year wonder. The 6-foot-3 right-hander is on track for another stellar season, with a 1.96 ERA and an eye-popping 53 strikeouts in 41.1 innings of work. Case in point: he hasn't allowed a run, earned or unearned, since May 21.

So how is Green improving on a strong 2017 campaign? His strikeout to walk ratio is just shy of 7:1, meaning his control is improving. His fastball is better than ever, with his velocity up to north of 96 miles per hour. He's also choosing to throw it more often: 87.7% of the time, up from 67.7% last season.
