DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A two-car crash involving a police cruiser ended with an officer sent to a hospital.
Police say it happened at about 6:25 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Route 36 and 22nd Street in Decatur, when a westbound pickup truck on Route 36 ran a red light and slammed into the police car. Officers say there were two officers in the cruiser.
A male officers had cuts on his arm, while the female officer in the front passenger seat needed hospital care. Police say she is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.
Officers say they cited the pickup truck driver for three violations after he admitted to being on his phone. The charges include unlawful use of an electronic device, no valid driver's license and disobeying a traffic control signal.
Photos taken by a WAND-TV crew showed front-end damage on the police car.
