NEWARK, N.J. (WAND) – Carbon monoxide poisoning killed a woman and a man as they had sex, police say.

Law enforcement sources told NBC Washington that a husband returned home and discovered the bodies of his 39-year-old wife and the 59-year-old man in a car parked in his garage. Investigators came to the scene at around 8:45 p.m. Monday.

Sources told the station the man killed was the woman’s mechanic.

Police say the car was running in a closed garage. They believe the deaths were an accident.

Law enforcement leaders told the station they think the woman was paying for work on a car by having sex with the mechanic.

The Newark Police Department says it is not releasing the names of the victims on Tuesday.
