3 men facing weapons charges

URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Three people are facing weapons charges after a traffic stop.

The men were stopped for speeding. Police found three loaded guns in the vehicle, two of which had been reported stolen.

21-year-old Andrew Washington of Rantoul, 24-year-old George Edwards of Champaign, and 21-year-old Mahlyk Jordan of Rantoul were all charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of possession of a stolen weapon.

Edwards was also charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

The prosecutor said the men were pulled over at Market and Bradley streets with an expired registration while speeding in Champaign.

Police said they found the guns under the driver's and passengers' seats.

Four bags of cocaine were found on Edwards, they said.

Police also said Washington threw up in front of them, leading hem to believe he may have swallowed drugs. A bag with a white substance was found near him.

They also found $500 cash in the car.

Washington had a pending petition to revoke his probation for burglary and another prior conviction for possession of a stolen vehicle. His bond was set at $100,000.

Edwards had a prior conviction for battery and a juvenile adjudication for burglary. Jordan had no previous convictions. Their bonds were set at $50,000 each.

All three are due in court again on July 31.
