DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A man charged with approaching high school cheerleaders and making sexual comments pleaded not guilty.

Terry Rufty, 46, made his plea in a Wednesday court appearance. He’s accused of asking the cheerleaders for sexual favors as they cleaned up from a car wash event at St. Teresa High School, then daring them to call police and saying he didn’t care.

Court records say Rufty waived his right to a preliminary hearing in court. His charge is for violation of sex offender registry and unlawful solicitation of a child.

Rufty is a predatory sex offender. He has to register every 90 days and is not allowed to be on school grounds.

Rufty’s pre-trial hearing is happening on Aug. 7 at the Macon County Courthouse.
