DPS 61 trying to fill teacher vacancies

Decatur, Ill (WAND) – With school bells ringing in just over a month to start the new school year Decatur Public School District 61 still has 72 teacher vacancies.

School districts across the state are finding it difficult to hire teachers due to strict guidelines in teacher hiring.  It’s a problem which could leave districts scrambling to fill positions and the possibility statewide of overcrowded classrooms.

Of the 72 positions there are 30 open positions for special education teachers in Decatur.  There is also a demand for math, music, science and 6th grade teachers.  Physical education teachers and sports coaches are also needed.

Teachers can apply at www.dps61.org by clicking on the employment tab.
