Man charged with battery after woman calls 911 screaming for help


MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A Mattoon man is facing battery charges after a woman called 911 screaming for help.

27-year-old Lester Towns is charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Police said a woman called 911 yelling for help Wednesday.

Officers rushed to the 1800 block of Rudy in Mattoon.

Police said there had been a domestic disturbance between the caller and Towns. They said Towns was refusing to let the woman leave.

They said when she called for help, Towns took her phone away and hit her twice in the face.

Towns was taken to the Coles County Jail.
