Champaign coalition unveils plans to combat gun violence

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign Community Coalition is working to combat gun violence over the next five years.

The coalition unveiled a 5-year action plan Wednesday in response to a recent spike in gun related crimes.

The five point plan includes:

  • Taking inventory of community resources Champaign and Urbana already have to fight gun violence
  • More effective marketing and distribution of information for trauma-informed care
  • Creating a public policy agenda to get local funding
  • Share stories that show the impact of gun violence.
  • Creating a committee to write grants and coordinate resources
