Pulitzer Prize winner from Mattoon laid to rest


MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) -  Pulitzer Prize winning journalist James Sullivan was laid to rest Wednesday.

Sullivan grew up in Mattoon and arranged to be buried there.

Sullivan died at the age of 93 on May 18 in the Southwest.

A funeral service was held at Immaculate Conception Church in Mattoon. Sullivan was cremated and buried at Calvary Cemetery.

Sullivan earned a Pulitzer Price for public service for being a part of the Newsday reporting team that investigated how heroin traveled from France to the Long Island borough of New York in the 1970s.
