Northeast starts $2 million building project

Decatur, Ill (WAND) – Nearly 50 years since he started working at the Northeast Community Fund in Decatur Jerry Pelz will get to see a spacious more modern building for his social service agency serving low income individuals in Macon County.

“It’s basically a $2 million project,” Pelz told WAND’s Doug Wolfe.  “It’s over 17,000 square feet.  And right now we’re in about 8,000.  It’s more than double of what we’re dealing with.”

Northeast Community Fund provides groceries, cloths and other social services to disadvantaged individuals in Decatur.  Money for the new building is being raised through donations.

“We were just so proud of everybody that came together and has given small amounts to large amounts and have continued to give,” said Capital Campaign Chair Regan Andreas Deering.  Donations to the project can be sent to the Northeast Community Fund, 825 N. Water Street, Decatur, Illinois 62523.

Construction of the new building should be completed around March 2019.
