The Food and Drug Administration is warning certain ingredients can lead to heart disease in dogs.

Food based on peas, lentils, or potatoes is being linked to canine dilated cardiomyopathy, or enlarged hearts.

The FDA said the condition is turning up in breeds that do not usually get it.

Symptoms of DCM include lethargy, weight loss and sometimes a cough. The condition can be fatal.

At this time, no specific dog food brands are being recalled in connection with this.
