Half of IL counties on poverty watch or warning lists

(WAND) - About half of all Illinois counties are on poverty watch or warning lists.

That is according to anti-poverty organization, the Heartland Alliance.

Last year, 30 counties had poor ratings. This year, that number increased to 52.

Ratings cover things like unemployment, high school graduation rates, and teen births.

Five counties made a dire warning list. Those counties are Wayne, Stephenson, Morgan, Calhoun, and Mason.

The counties with the best ratings are Adams, Clark, Christian, Jasper, Macoupin, Richland, and Scott.
