Suspect arrested after standoff at apartment complex

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – An armed suspect is in custody after someone fired gunshots in Springfield. 

Police say they surrounded an apartment building in the 1700 block of Seven Pines Road after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. They were looking to arrest a suspect wanted on a felony warrant. 

Officers say he ran into an apartment building after the shots were fired. 

The suspect was identified as Marcus T. Monger, 20, of Springfield. 

Springfield police, the Emergency Response Team and Hostage Negotiation Team were involved in the response.

Police evacuated people from an apartment building at one point. There were no injuries. 

Monger was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, possessing a firearms without a FOID card, resisting a peace officer and an Illinois Department of Corrections Warrant.
